US mag Game Informer has released new details on the Multiplayer mode for the upcoming Crackdown 2. Take a look at the info below!
Here’s the real meat: as rumoured Pacific City hasn’t changed much and still holds the same roads and many of the same buildings as before – although some have been changed or demolished.
As with the first game your agent will grow more powerful as you obtain skill orbs by performing abilities relevant to your character. Super-cops can now perform more varied melee attacks and call in supplies at any time. A “more precise” targeting system is also in, says GI, and players will be rewarded for skill.
New Agency vehicles including a helicopter (!) are promised, plus all old motors will return for the follow-up. Developer Ruffian is pimping its weapon variety too, and in GI’s visit it showed a new powerful shotgun, a rail gun and sticky grenades.
As has been mentioned before, the co-op count is bumped up to four-players (and vehicles now have room for mounted turrets to accommodate the extra teammates) and Crackdown 2 is said to have a stronger focus on co-op play in general. 16-player deathmatch too is apparently “tons of fun” and sports a Call of Duty 4-style progressions system.
The infection in the city means that it will now decay over time, and the mutants roaming the streets will grow far more fearsome as the game progresses. Luckily, they seem to prefer the night as their playtime.
Civilians have responded to this new, increasingly dangerous metropolis by armouring up their cars and carrying weapons, and they’ll often be involved in dynamic events such as selling you goods or being chased down by giant critters.

Ruffian games spoke to Edge Online recently, and some more details of Crackdown 2 emerged. Check below!
“We’ve got core members from every discipline who worked on [Crackdown 1], the majority of the design team, and, depending on whom you speak to, some of the best coders and most talented artists,” said creative director Billy Thompson.
“We still maintain a really strong working relationship with [original developer] Realtime; they’re our neighbours in both personal and professional relationships, and we like that,” piped in producer Jim Cope. “But leaping to our defence, in a sense, we firmly believe we’re the right people to make Crackdown 2.”
“From an environmental point of view, you probably would look at it as being an entirely new map,” Thompson told Edge. “We’ve altered a great deal, and think people who enjoyed the first game are going to be really pleased when they enter this one. And we’ve made sure the gameplay’s altered significantly.”
“It’s hard to say without giving everything away early on, but it’s about how well the AI get around the environment. And it’s looking pretty good right now, I’ve got to say.”

The first details of Crackdown 2 have been released via the Official Xbox website. The game was given a teaser trailer at E3 last week, but that was all we heard from it.
Here’s the official write up on the Xbox site:
The sequel to the award-winning vertical-world adventure, Crackdown 2 is the ultimate open-ended world action experience, only available on Xbox 360®. The game lets you be judge, jury, and executioner for a huge, fully explorable city. Crackdown 2 takes multiplayer gaming to unprecedented levels for the ultimate co-op and competitive multiplayer experience, providing you and your friends with the complete freedom to explore, destroy, and play your way as you restore justice and peace to Pacific City—by any means necessary.
The first Crackdown was an excellent game, let’s hope that this one will be, erm, cracking!
